A government order asking to stock up two months’ supply of LPG cylinders in Valley has sparked speculations, especially in the wake of the LAC face-off, with NC leader questioning the need for such a move.

According to the June 27 order issued by the director of the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department in Kashmir, an adviser to Jammu and Lt Governor G C Murmu has passed directions in a meeting on June 23 “to ensure sufficient stocks of LPG in the valley as the supply of the same gets affected due to closure of the National Highway on account of frequent landslides”.

Describing the order as a “matter most urgent”, the director asked the to make adequate stocks of LPG which can last up to two months both at bottling plants as well as godowns.

Though similar exercises are common in winter months in view of frequent disruptions on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, such huge stocking does not usually take place in summers.

The aviation regulator has issued a show cause notice to a top executive of India two weeks after one of its pilots, who runs a popular YouTube channel called Flying Beast, alleged violations of safety norms by the low-cost airline, senior officials said on Sunday.

“A show cause notice has been issued to Manish Uppal, Head of Operations, India after the pilot’s allegations,” the officials said.

India did not respond to PTI’s request for a statement on this matter.

Captain Gaurav Taneja, a popular Youtuber, tweeted on June 14 that he has been suspended by AirAsia India “for standing up for safe operations of an aircraft and its passengers”. On June 15, he posted a detailed video on YouTube titled “Reasons behind suspension from my pilot job”.

Taneja alleged in the video that the airline has asked its pilots to do 98 per cent of landings in “Flap 3” mode, which allows it to save fuel. He said if a pilot does not do 98 per cent of landings in “Flap 3” mode, the airline considers it a violation of its standard

Malawi’s New President Calls For Unity After Disputed Vote Re-run

Malawi’s newly elected President Lazarus Chakwera vowed Sunday to maintain unity in the southern African country after quashing the incumbent’s bid for a second term in the re-run of a hotly contested election.

It was a dramatic twist of fortune for outgoing president Peter Mutharika, whose victory in a May 2019 ballot was overturned by the Constitutional Court over fraud allegations.

Chakwera, a former evangelist preacher, was declared the winner of the election replay with almost 59 percent of the vote, according to results announced late Saturday.

Malawi is only the second sub-Saharan African country to have presidential poll results overturned in court, after Kenya in 2017.

It is also the first time in the region that a vote re-run has led to the defeat of an incumbent leader.

The election was hailed by leaders across the continent as a peaceful transition of power.

“It is an honour forged in the furnace of your desire and your demand for change,” Chakwera said after taking his oath of office.

Addressing thousands of supporters in Lilongwe’s Freedom Square, the 65-year-old vowed to restore “faith in the possibility of having a government that serves” and “fights for you”.

He appealed to those who
