Shift4 Payments Inc. reported a 26% year-over-year increase in processing volume for the September quarter, driven by its $2.5 billion acquisition of Swiss processor Global Blue. CEO Taylor Lauber highlighted the company’s leadership in hotels and stadiums, stating, “We are just beginning to bring these strengths to the world.” This growth reflects the successful integration of Global Blue’s assets, which have bolstered Shift4’s position in key verticals.

Strong Financial Performance Fuels Expansion

Shift4’s quarterly results showed a 62% surge in gross profit to $409.6 million, matching its four-year compound annual growth rate. Revenue climbed 61% year-over-year to $589.2 million. These results are propelling the company’s expansion, including the planned acquisition of Bambora North America from French processor Worldline S.A., expected to close in early 2025. The Bambora deal, encompassing U.S. and Canadian assets, will significantly enhance Shift4’s capabilities in automated clearing house processing, a critical area for the company’s future growth.

The Bambora deal will add one of the largest processors of automated clearing house volume in the U.S. market. Lauber emphasized a two-pronged strategy, targeting both enterprise merchants through Global Blue and small-to-medium sellers through its core business. “We put our chips where we think the verticals are going to be the strongest,” he said. This approach ensures Shift4 remains competitive across diverse market segments, from large enterprises to smaller businesses.

Stock Support and Acquisition Strategy

Shift4 has been actively supporting its stock, which Lauber noted is trading at December 2020 levels. “The obvious thing to do is to buy as much of our equity as we’re permitted to do,” he said. Despite this, Lauber assured that acquisitions remain a priority. The company’s shares were trading at just shy of $70 early Thursday, reflecting investor confidence in its strategic direction.
