Family Office Mutual Trust Hires Two Partners

Mutual Trust has expanded its presence across Sydney and Adelaide with the appointment of two new partners. The firm, which provides integrated family office advisory services, has added significant experience to its growing national operation.

Sydney Office Welcomes Family Business Specialist

Kirsten Taylor-Martin joins Mutual Trust as the new Sydney-based partner for family office advisory. With over three decades of experience, she brings extensive expertise in family business consulting and family office services.

Previously, Taylor-Martin served as partner and national head of family business consulting at Grant Thornton. There, she led thought leadership initiatives such as the firm’s biennial Family Business Survey. Her appointment is expected to strengthen Mutual Trust’s offerings in Sydney.

Jeff Steiner, head of family office advisory at Mutual Trust, said, “Kirsten’s appointment bolsters our Sydney team and supports our national family office advisory growth.”

Mutual Trust, founded in 1921, offers integrated wealth and professional services to Australian families and businesses. The firm understands the intricacies of family enterprises, supporting clients through generational transitions.

For families handling these transitions, an advisor with a deep understanding of both financial and relational aspects is invaluable. Taylor-Martin’s extensive background in family business consulting suggests she can provide such full support.

Adelaide Office Strengthens Tax Practice

Claire van Malland has been appointed as the new partner for tax and accounting in the Adelaide office. She will lead the firm’s South Australian tax and accounting practice.

Van Malland previously led the Adelaide Fringe Benefits Tax practice at EY and supported clients through ATO reviews and audits. Her expertise in translating complex tax legislation into practical advice will benefit Mutual Trust’s clients.

Growth Reflects Firm’s Expansion Strategy

Mutual Trust’s expansion aligns with its growth strategy, following its merger with The Myer Family Company Limited in 2017. The firm now employs over 260 people across five offices nationwide.

Phil Harkness, CEO and managing partner, said, “As Mutual Trust continues to grow, attracting and developing exceptional talent is a key priority. We’re delighted to welcome Kirsten and Claire to our team. Their appointments reflect our commitment to deepening our expertise and serving our clients better.”
